Description: Often considered one of the best day hikes in the world, the Tongariro Alpine Crossing takes hikers across a dramatic volcanic landscape, including active craters, lava fields, and geothermal features. Description: Starting from the Ohakune Mountain Road, this track takes you through native forest to the tallest waterfall in Tongariro National Park, Waitonga Falls. The trail is well-formed with some steps and boardwalks.
Highlights: The reflective tarns along the way offer incredible views of Mount Ruapehu, and the 39-meter Waitonga Falls is a stunning destination. In summer, alpine wildflowers add an extra splash of color.

Description: This short walk starts at the Mangawhero Falls parking area on the Turoa Road and leads to a viewpoint overlooking Mangawhero Falls, a stunning cascade set against volcanic rock formations.

Description: This historic trail takes walkers through ancient forest and past historic railway sites, including the iconic Hapuawhenua Viaduct. The path is well-marked and combines gravel and dirt sections, with gentle climbs and descents along the way.
